The CEE 2025 Treasury Forum, held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 15 to 17 May, gathered financial leaders from across the central and eastern European region to explore the evolving role of treasurers in today’s complex economic environment.
Organised by TMI with the support of the Romanian Association of Treasurers (ATR), the event hosted approximately 150 participants from eight countries, along with 24 distinguished speakers.
A pre-event training session, FX Management for Treasurers, was led by Alex Axentiev, Co-Founder, HedgeFlows. His presentation offered foundational insights and practical strategies for managing FX risk, equipping treasurers with the tools to navigate financial uncertainty effectively.
The second day opened with remarks from Oana Doroftei, President, ATR, and Tamás Ónody, Chairman, Hungarian Treasury Club (HTC), setting the stage for expert discussions on global and regional economic trends. Macroeconomic overviews were delivered by Aurel Bernat, Executive Director, Banca Transilvania, Dr Xuxin Mao, Head of Research, Bank of China (London), and Csaba Bálint, board member, National Bank of Romania.
The day also featured several panels focused on Working Capital Management (Raiffeisen Bank International AG and Kontron AG), Cash Management in the CEE Region (Visa, BRD Groupe Societe Generale, NTT Data Romania SA, Alliance Healthcare Romania and MVM Energetika Zrt), Risk Management ( IPF plc, J.P. Morgan and ATR), and CEE Fintech (Indicathor, Pluridio, Finqware, Symphopay, FX Software Ltd and TMI), with panellists from corporations, banks, and fintech companies offering diverse perspectives.
These discussions underscored the significance of treasury strategies in the current geopolitical and economic climate, highlighting how banks, fintechs, and other key financial players can support treasurers by providing innovative financial solutions, risk mitigation strategies, and enhanced liquidity management tools.
The day’s agenda concluded with a keynote presentation by former professional basketball player Virgil St?nescu, who delivered an inspiring session entitled Learn, Practice, Play. He emphasised the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and strategic execution – all principles essential for treasury professionals in today’s dynamic environment. The day ended with a gala dinner, giving attendees the opportunity to network.
